Narrative
Tradition says that Leod was foster-child of Paal Baalkeson, Heritable Sheriff of Skye under the Kings of Man. Circa 1231 when Paal died without legitimate issue, Leod succeeded to Sleat, Trotternish, Waternish and Snizort in Skye and to Harris and North Uist. From his father Leod also received Glenelg on the mainland and part of the Lewes and also acquired Gairloch.
