John Daniel's parents Andrew Dubois and Sarah A. Bicknell were not married, but were both married to others. Per the memories of Geneva and Elaine, their mother Lillie Mae Jones (Debbie Hinkle's grandmother) talked about the fact that one of Sarah's sons, Eldie Boswell, lived with them her entire childhood. He is listed on several census records in the household. Eldie's father was John F. Boswell, so Eldie and John Daniel Dubois were half-brothers. Eldie gathered herbs and roots and sold them for a living.
The 1910 US Census lists both of Sarah's parents, Daniel and Callie Bicknell, in the household of Sarah and her husband John Boswell.
