Ranulf was also known as Ranulph de Briquessart. He gained the title of Vicomte de Bayeux [Normandy]. He succeeded to the title of Vicomte d'Avranches [Normandy] on 25 November 1120. He was created 1st Earl of Chester [England] in 1121. He was Commander of the Royal forces in Normandy in 1124.
