Narrative
Thorfinn succeeded to the title of Jarl of Orkney in 1014. He was created 1st Earl of Caithness [Scotland] circa 1030, creatd by his grandfather, Malcolm II. In 1034 upon King Malcolm II's death, Thorfinn disputed Duncan's right to the Scottish throne. In 1040 after Duncan's murder by Macbeth, he obtained dominion over the whole of the north of Scotland.
