Narrative
Sir Gilbert supported King Robert I (The Bruce). In 1309 King Robert I granted him the lands of Slains, Aberdeenshire. He fought in the Battle of Methven in 1314, against the English. He held the office of Scottish Ambassador to England after 1314, to negotiate the truce after Bannockburn. He held the office of Great Constable of Scotland on 12 November 1314.
