Narrative
From History of Limestone County, Alabama, compiled by Robert Henry Walker:
James Wesley was recruited as a Private in Company A, 50th Tenn infantry, CSA, at Clarksville, TN 1861-912 for a period of 12 months. This regiment was part of the garrison protecting For Donelson, TN, until the fort was captured 1862-2-16. Most of the infantry was shipped north to a prison at Camp Douglass, IL, but James W. was part of the 850 send to Vicksburg, MS, as part of a prisoner exchange. His company was reorganized at Jackson, MS, 1862-9-23 and he served out the rest of the war. He married as soon as he returned home to TN, and moved to Limestone Co, AL soon after. He had three wives in all and many children, and died after breaking his leg while out on a walk at almost 90.
