Narrative
William was the illegitimate son of the 2nd Earl of Douglas.
William was an envoy to England to negotiate for the release of King James I of Scotland in 1412. In 1412 he was granted the confirmatory charter for the territorial barony of Drumlanrig, Hawick and Selkirk. He fought in the French Wars. He died in 1427 in France, killed in action.
