'KATHERINE was the daughter of Major Edward Dale of Lancaster Co and Lady Diana Skipwith, whose ancestry has been traced to William the Conqueror. Her mother and father both had ties to the Royal Family of England and other countries. It is reported that her father, Maj. Edward Dale, gave she and Capt. Thomas Carter, 3200 acres of land in Lancaster Co., VA. upon their marrage.'
