John Hamblin was bound to Humphrey Tilton by 1708. It was common practice to appoint a guardian for the eldest to look after his affairs until he became of age, if he became an orphan and was to inherit substantial holdings. By 1716 John had married Mary Sarah Thackston, , daughter of Thomas and Mary Thackston. That year he sold 50a. of Stanlie's Hope, 50a. of Grange and other properties. He then purchased Reading 100a. He was listed in the Levy Lists for Kent County in 1728.
