John Wright Vickers signed his name John Right on some legal documents, and thus there are some references to him as John R. Vickers.

John Vickers of Lincoln Co. in the State of Tennessee who was a private in the company commanded by Captain Ewell of the Regiment commanded by Colonel Gibson in the Virginia line, for the term of three years from 1777 to 1780.
Inscribed on the Roll of West Tennessee at the rate of eight Dollars per month, to commence on the 20 day of Dec. 1831.
Certificate of Pension issued the 30th of December 1831 and sent to Hon. J.R. Polke, House of Reps.

Declaration in order to [?] on the pension list under the act of 18th March 1818. County of Lincoln State of Tennessee On this 27th day of July 1830, personally appeared in open court during a Court of Record for the County of Lincoln (which is made a Court of Record by the laws of the state, and proceeding according to the Court of the Common Law with jurisdiction unlimited in [?] of account keeping a record of this proceedings) John Vickers, resident in said County aged 87 years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the Act of Congress the 18th March 1818 & the 1st of May 1820. That he enlisted for the term of three years as well as he now recollects in the year 1777 in the State of Virginia, Prince William County, in the Company commanded by Thomas Ewell in the Regiment commanded by Col. Gibson in the line? of the State of Virginia Muhlenburgs Brigade on the Continental Establishment--that he continued to serve in the said Corps until April 1783 when he was discharged from the service at Little York in the State of Virginia--that he relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension except the present--that his name is not on the roll of any state except Virginia, & that the following are the reasons for not making [?] application for a pension. He did some time since make application--he could not [?] to himself to make application to his country for [?] as he could by his industry and economy support himself in any sort of decency and comfort and in pursuance of the Act of May 1820 I do solemnly swear that I am a resident citizen of the United States on the 18 March 1818 & that I have not since that time by gift, sale, or in any [?] disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent [?] so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an Act of Congress entitled to act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land & naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War passed on the 18th March 1818 and that I have not, or any person in trust for me, my property or [?] contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed to wit:

I, Brien M. Gomer, Clerk of the County Court for the County of Lincoln in the State of Tennessee.

John Vickers came back again in 1833, giving more information on his service, with most details remembered the same, but he stated his age differently. He was in his eighties and may have become confused. His widow Nancy M. Vickers appeared in 1845 to apply for John's half pension.
