On the 1930 US census Rollie's household still contained 8 of his children, along with one grandson. Daughter Ina, age, 17, was listed as Ina Bailey, divorced, with her 8 mo old son R.C. Bailey.
Daughter Neeter and her husband Deemer Shannon and son James W. lived beside the Hobbs family in 1930.
The 1940 census provided information on education, and both Rollie and Nora Lee listed 6th grade education level. Two of their sons were also shown as heads of households nearby, Jesse R. and Robert L. Jesse went to school 7 years and Robert 5 years. Sarah made it through 7th grade, Lois 6th grade. Rollie still had his grandson R.C. under his roof but not his daughter Ina, and R.C. and Elzie Morris were basically the same age (R.C. was 5 mo older than his youngest uncle). Rollie consistently listed his age as 7 years older than his wife Nora Lee, so one of their birth years may have been incorrectly recorded.

The Hobbs family lived in Tennessee at first, and the first seven children were born there. Then they moved to Alabama.
