Narrative

Hugh was created 1st Lord Audley [England by writ] on 20 November 1317. In 1321/22 he joined the insurrection of the Earl of Lancaster along with his father, but was pardoned. He was created 1st Earl of Gloucester [England] on 16 March 1336/37. He held the office of Ambassador to France in 1341. On his death, the title of Earl of Gloucester was considered to be extinct, as Hugh died without male issue.
