Narrative

Baldwin gained the title of Lord of Bourne [feudal barony]. He was He also held Buttercrambe, Cottingham and Kirkby Moorside, Yorkshire, and through his mother Market Deeping and Skellingthorp, Lincolnshire. He opposed King Henry III in the Barons' War, and was taken prisoner when the latter's forces recovered Northampton in 1264. He was held captive until released after the baronial victory over Henry of Lewes. In 1265 he was taken prisoner again by the future King Edward I at Kenilworth just before the royalist victory of Evesham. In May 1266 he regained his freedom once more, but was again defeated by royalist forces at Chesterfield, following which he made his peace with King Henry. In 1277 he campaigned in Wales.
