Calvin worked as Conductor for L&N Railroad. He spent some time (almost two years) in a tuberculosis sanitorium. Family was not allowed to visit, and Aunt Kathryn divorced him around this time. Calvin and Thelma lived as a family with their two sons and Thelma's son and daughter Steven and Terry Lee Cahill for a long time before they married in 1975.
